Delicious autumn! My very soul is wedded to it, and if I were a bird I would fly about the earth seeking the successive autumns.
Last weekend was one of those perfect Colorado autumn weekends, clear bright blue skies and plenty of shimmering gold Aspen leaves to gaze at. In the mountains, it was cool enough to believe that the heat of the summer was truly behind us but still warm enough to let us enjoy our favorite autumn outdoor activities. While many Colorado Springs residents were leaf peeping, hiking and seeking out farmers markets some were bringing food, water and support to a group of Air Force cadets as they chopped down burned trees, worked on fire mitigation and continued the cleanup in Mountain Shadows. More than 300 Air Force Academy cadets volunteered their time and energy in a cleanup project aimed at helping homeowners feel good, be safer and get the community one step closer to rebuilding. Residents of Mountain Shadows were amazed, grateful and proud of how much work the cadets took on and the Colorado Springs community once again embraced the volunteers. This wasn’t easy work but the Air Force cadets positive attitude was contagious; they know that the service they gave to the Mountain Shadows community is just as important as the service they’ll give to our country.
This summer we witnessed the spirit and strength of community during and after the Waldo Canyon fire. It’s nice to know that in Mountain Shadows and in many other parts of the city and state it’s still there and maybe even stronger. Saddletree Homes is proud to be part of the community and the rebuilding of Mountain Shadows. One volunteer, one cleanup weekend and one house at a time. These small but powerful steps show not only the residents of Mountain Shadows but the rest of our state and our country that we understand what it means to help families rebuild their dreams.
By next fall many Mountain Shadows residents will be back in new homes. And we’re grateful than many of them will choose to work with Saddletree Homes. We are seeing growth and change on a daily basis.
