District 38 prides themselves in being a small town school district with big time learning. It is arguably the top-performing district in El Paso County. Students are consistently ranked among the top three districts in the state. It is a premiere preK-12 school district. They focus on each individual; providing an educational experience customized to meet specific needs. District 38 is Accredited with Distinction by the State for being among the top in Colorado. Overall their students place in the top 10% of ACT college entrance exams and they are the only district in Southern Colorado named to the College Board Advanced Placement Honor roll more than once. They also score higher on standardized testing than all neighboring districts. That honor has been received 4 out of 5 years along with the top 3% of districts in the nation. The teachers are top of the line with more than half of them with master’s degrees or doctorate and 100% of them are rated as highly-qualified in their subject areas. The schools of district 38 have received the John Irwin Schools of Excellence Award several times which is only given to the top 8% of schools in Colorado based on student achievement and progress.
About School District 38 in Monument, Colorado
The Lewis-Palmer School District is situated at the north end of El Paso County, north of the United States Air Force Academy. Serving about 6000 students, the district encompasses Palmer Lake, Monument, Woodmoor and the northern part of the Black Forest area.
In addition to the core curriculum, all district schools offer programs to meet the unique learning needs of students that qualify for Special Education, Gifted and Talented services and for those students that speak languages other than English.
Indicators of student learning, as measured by state and national tests, confirm that District 38 ranks among the highest in the state. Our high school graduation rate is over 95%, and approximately 85% continue on to college. The district provides bus transportation and a hot lunch program, and school-sponsored athletic programs are available for boys and girls at the middle and high school levels.
Student achievements and test scores that set D-38 apart
ACT and SAT college entrance exam scores are consistently above state and national averages. 85% of the students plan on post-secondary education and 5% join the military including more than four D-38 students appointed each year to the U.S. military academies.
Opportunities provided for gifted students
D-38 has a gifted and talented facilitator at each campus that offer advanced placement, honors, independent study, and college-level/credit-for-college courses.
Elementary school perks
At all D-38 elementary schools on-campus child care is provided before and after school. Elementary school also offer after-school and evening enrichment activities year round. These activities include life skills, performing arts, virtual acts, special interests, on-line courses, and more. Preschool programs are also offered before elementary school.
Clubs offered: Art club, bearbotics, DECA, drama club, FCA, Forensics/Model United Nations, Friends of Rachel Club, Future Business Leaders of America, German American Partnership Program, Homework Group, INK Literary Magazine, Key Club, LINK Crew, National Honor Society, Programming Club, Ridge Rage, Rock Climbing Club, Science Olympiad, amd Student Council.
Athletics offered: Baseball, basketball, cheerleading, cross country, field hockey, football, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, poms dance team, soccer, softball, swim/drive. Tennis, track, volleyball and wrestling.
Basketball: Lewis-Palmer Boys Basketball Program maintained a 70% winning percentage over the decades and have produced an NBA player and several NCAA Division I, II, and III players. They have three crowns from the State Championship and have been to five straight Final Fours, winning back-to-back Championships.
Soccer: (Boys) The Lewis-Palmer High School Boys’ Soccer Team was the 2014 CHSAA Academic State Champions. This award is given to the team in Colorado with the highest GPA. This follows a great 2014 campaign which saw a young Varsity team take 3rd place in the PPAC. The Varsity team lost in a heart-breaking first round match of the playoffs to Summit High School in Frisco, Colorado.
Soccer: (Girls) Our program has a long standing tradition of excellence. We pride ourselves on the girls teamwork and playing ability. Not only have we been successful on the playing field, but also in the classroom. Many of our players have received Academic Scholarships to top level colleges and Service Academies due to their diligence and hard work in the classroom.
